A Chinese Wedding Ceremony in Mallorca: Chenyi & Tiangseng at Son Marroig

Iban总会带来惊喜,你可以期待下个惊喜是什么。
Iban说:如果一位婚礼司仪让新娘在婚礼上掉下眼泪,他就成功了。事实上,Iban做到了,他值得所有称赞!💕

Chenyi and Tiangseng traveled from China for an intimate elopement at Son Marroig, Mallorca — just six guests. As their wedding officiant, their biggest concern going in wasn’t the small scale, but language and cultural distance: whether a ceremony delivered by someone from a different culture, in a different language, could still feel like theirs. Their own words, below, answer that better than I can.

What Chenyi Said About Her Wedding Ceremony

Chenyi wrote a full testimonial in Mandarin after the wedding. Here it is in her own words, alongside an English translation:

非常高兴和感激Iban可以作为我们婚礼的司仪!他非常非常出色,值得百分百的信任。选择司仪时,我们最担忧的是语言问题和文化差异…

In English: “We were so happy and grateful to have Iban as our wedding officiant. He was outstanding, and completely trustworthy. Our biggest worry when choosing an officiant was the language barrier and cultural differences — but from our very first conversation, those worries disappeared. He took the time to carefully understand our story, and on the day itself, everyone understood him clearly, with no barriers at all. He gave us two surprises: a beautifully written document capturing our story and the things we wanted to say to our families, and a certificate he designed himself — a gift I’ll treasure. If any of our friends are planning a wedding in Spain or Europe, I will recommend Iban without hesitation.”

A Love Story Written in Theatre, Cars, and a Ring Engraved in Spanish

Chenyi and Tiangseng met at Shanghai Theatre Academy — she studied stage design, he studied lighting design, and they got to know each other working on the same production crew. They confirmed their relationship on the night of December 16, 2019, in a small bar. As Chenyi put it: they fell in love in the theatre.

Beyond that, they share a genuine passion for engines — cars, motorcycles, the sound of a well-tuned machine. They’ve spent three years modifying their own car together.

The proposal happened on Chenyi’s birthday in 2023: what looked like a normal dinner turned into a private room filled with 999 roses, a video Tiangseng had made himself telling their story, and a ring he designed and had built from scratch — a single diamond on a four-claw setting, engraved inside with a line of Spanish poetry: “Este es un puerto, aquí te amo” (“This is a harbor, here I love you”).

Officiating Wedding Ceremonies for Chinese and Asian Couples in Mallorca

Couples traveling from China, or anywhere in Asia, to marry in Mallorca are often navigating exactly what Chenyi described: uncertainty about whether language and cultural distance will get in the way of the ceremony feeling personal. In practice, that means:

  • A ceremony written to be understood clearly by every guest, regardless of language background
  • Real time spent understanding the couple’s actual story, not a generic script adapted for a foreign audience
  • Small, meaningful surprises — a written document capturing the couple’s story, a keepsake certificate — built around what actually matters to each couple

That same care for clear, cross-cultural communication shapes every ceremony for couples traveling a long way to marry in Mallorca — including a Japanese-British destination wedding at Son Marroig and a private ceremony where I served as full master of ceremonies from welcome through to dinner.

The Wedding Crew

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you officiate a wedding ceremony for a Chinese or Asian couple in Mallorca? Yes. Ceremonies are written and delivered clearly for international guest lists, with real time spent understanding each couple’s story regardless of language or cultural background.

Is language or cultural difference a barrier when planning a ceremony? Not in practice. Couples often worry about this beforehand, but a ceremony built around clear delivery and genuine understanding of the couple’s story works across language and cultural lines — this is something past clients have spoken to directly.

What makes Son Marroig a good venue for a destination wedding from Asia? Son Marroig offers a striking, private setting on Mallorca’s northwest coast, well suited to couples traveling a long distance for an intimate ceremony rather than a large-scale event.

Can you officiate a small elopement-style ceremony in Mallorca? Yes. Some of the most meaningful ceremonies are the smallest — a handful of guests, or none at all. An intimate ceremony gets the same level of care and personalization as a larger wedding.
